The next phase of works on the rail replacement project will be Area 3 between Gleadless Townend and Herdings Park on Friday 10 August 2018.
The project will see over 22 kilometers of tram track replaced to future-proof the Supertram network. The new rail will improve passenger comfort and reduce noise in areas where the track is currently worn.
Planned work areas this year
Area 2 works between Birley Lane and Halfway are well underway and on schedule to complete on Wednesday 8 August 2018. The proposed dates for the remaining phases are as follows:

Area 3: Gleadless Townend – Herdings Park
Area 3 works will begin on Friday 10 August between Gleadless Townend and Herdings Park.
Where will trams operate to and from?
- Blue route services will run as normal between Malin Bridge and Halfway
- Yellow route services will run as normal between Meadowhall and Middlewood
- Purple route services will operate a limited service between Cathedral and Birley Lane where they will terminate
Halfway Park and Ride
Parking at Halfway Park and Ride will be free whilst these essential works take place. Customers will just need to buy their ticket on board.
What replacement buses will operate?
The P3 replacement buses will operate between Gleadless Townend and Herdings Park to minimise disruption to passengers as Herdings/Leighton Road and Herdings Park tram stops will be closed.

- Services 18 and 18a towards the city centre will operate via Norton Avenue, Raeburn Road and Leighton Road before resuming normal route on Norton Avenue.
