11-16 MEGATRAVEL PASS AND 16-18 STUDENT PASS – ONLINE APPLICATIONS
30 AugRE: 11-16 MEGATRAVEL PASS AND 16-18 STUDENT PASS – ONLINE APPLICATIONS
As you are aware it is fast approaching the new academic year and I wanted to take this opportunity to ask for your support in promoting the benefits of the 11-16 MegaTravel Passes and 16-18 Student Passes to parents and students along with the opportunities that they open up in terms of the purchase of other value-for-money tickets.
These free passes entitle school and college students under the age of 18, who reside in South Yorkshire to travel for a child concessionary fare (currently 70p per journey, increasing to 80p from 18 September) on bus and tram, and half fare on Northern Rail train services in South Yorkshire.
Additionally pass holders are eligible to purchase a range of value-for-money child and student tickets from bus and tram operators, including prepaid weekly tickets offering unlimited travel across South Yorkshire from as little as 72p per day.
Eligibility
11-16 MegaTravel Passes are available to students under the age of 16
16-18 Travel Passes are available to students under the age of 18 who are registered in full time education. A unique code will be provided to new students applying for the first time upon enrolment at school, college or training to complete their application.
How to apply
The quickest way to apply for an 11-16 MegaTravel Pass or a 16-18 Student Pass is online by using a MyTSY account. Full details can be found at www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/ticketspasses/.
Passes will be processed within 7 working days.
Alternatively, if customer are unable to apply online they can apply, renew and replace their passes as follows:
- by phone by calling Traveline 01709 51 51 51
- by posting a completed application form to: Contact Centre, SYPTE, 11 Broad Street West, Sheffield S1 2BQ, or via a drop-box at any Interchange Customer Service Desk.
Paper application forms are available from Interchange Customer Service Desks. Phone and paper applications will be processed within 21 working days. Passes will be posted to the customer’s home address which must be within South Yorkshire.
Successful applications
The 16-18 Student Pass application process at 11 participating schools/colleges has been simplified for returning students. To date we have successfully processed approximately 4,500 passes for students, who will be studying for their second year, at any of these institutions and their new passes are ready for collection on their return to education next month. We are also piloting a secure data transfer process with Sheffield College for first year students, meaning that these students will not need to apply for a 16-18 Student Pass themselves. These passes will be sent directly to the students. Taking into account both of these initiatives, we anticipate issuing a total of approximately 6000 passes automatically.
How can you help
We would like to ask that if you receive any enquiries please remind parents and students of the above application processes above and advise them of the timescales for each application method.
If you require any further information or have any questions please get in touch.
Thank you for your support.

Have Your Say – Bins and recycling
16 AugSheffield residents, landlords and managing agents are being asked to have their say on potential changes to their waste and recycling services.
Despite saving more than £6million from the annual waste services budget over the past three years, Government cuts mean we need to save a further £3.4million by 2017.
We want to increase the amount of waste recycled across the city and provide a more efficient service, without changing the collection frequency of black bins.
Residents are being asked for their views on a range of potential changes including changes to the blue box recycling service, collection times as well as the introduction of charges for replacing lost and damaged containers.
Your feedback will help us to make sure we get the right balance between keeping council tax bills low, making it easier for more people to recycle more and tackle the funding cuts from Government.
Your feedback will help inform recommendations that will be put to the Council’s Cabinet in the Autumn.
Why changes are needed
Despite saving more than £6million from the annual waste services budget over the past 3 years, Government cuts mean we need to save a further £3.4million by 2017.
To help achieve these savings we have identified a number of potential changes that will help to increase the amount of waste recycled across the city and provide a more efficient, affordable service, without changing the collection frequency of black bins.
Before making any changes, we want to get your feedback to make sure that we get the right balance between keeping Council Tax bills low, making it easier for more people to recycle more and tackle the funding cuts from Government.
Tell us your views
Residents have your say until 15th September.
There are 2 versions of the consultation for residents:
- living in flats who share their waste and recycling containers
- with their own waste and recycling containers
Some of the changes we are proposing relate solely to flats.
Other changes relate solely to residents with their own waste and recycling containers (residents not living in flats).
Therefore to ensure that residents are only completing questions relevant to them, we have designed 2 separate consultations.
Have your say about waste and recycling (residents in flats only).
