Sheffield Tobacco Control Strategy 2017- 2022 – Sheffield City Council

Closes Monday 2 January 2017

Sheffield City Council and partners are currently refreshing the Tobacco Control Strategy for 2017-2022. Smoking is still the biggest killer in the UK and is the biggest cause of health inequalities between rich and poor. We are proposing to invest more in prevention and population level Smokefree policy based approaches. Our approach combines interventions we know are effective in reducing health and social care costs, as well as costs to wider society. We are asking people to take part in this consultation so we can understand the public’s views and opinions about the proposed changes. For more info and to have your say, visit https://sheffield.citizenspace.com/place-business-strategy/sheffield-tobacco-control-strategy-2017-2022. Children’s surgery and anaesthesia services in South and Mid Yorkshire, Bassetlaw and North Derbyshire – Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)

Closes Friday 20 January 2017

Members of the public are invited to share their views on the three proposed options for the future of our region’s children’s surgery and anaesthesia services – with a final decision expected to be made by clinical commissioners in February. The new proposals will affect around 1 in every 10 children needing an operation across South and Mid Yorkshire, Bassetlaw and North Derbyshire. Children would still have ‘day case’ operations (where they do not stay overnight in hospital) at all local hospitals. Very specialist services, for children with very complex conditions, will also remain the same with children from across the region being treated at Sheffield Children’s Hospital as the only specialist centre in our region – as they are now. For more info and to have your say, visit https://sheffield.citizenspace.com/ccg-sheffield/childrens-surgery.

Hyper Acute Stroke Services in South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw and North Derbyshire Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)

Members of the public are invited to share their views on the proposed option for the future of our region’s hyper acute stroke services where patients are treated and given care for up to the first 72 hours after having a stroke – with a final decision expected to be made by clinical commissioners in February. Depending on where you live, some patients have better experiences and access to services than others – and doctors, nurses and healthcare experts all agreed that this shouldn’t happen – and have come together to change it. Add your voice to the Crimestoppers survey

With rising hate crime in our streets, it’s more important than ever to feel confident that we can report what is happening and still stay safe. Crimestoppers receives anonymous calls from citizens worried about reporting a crime directly to the police. This helps keep communities and streets safer and protects the identities of people who might not otherwise speak out. Last year 300,000 people contacted Crimestoppers resulting in 90,000 reports that were used for law enforcement.

Crimestoppers is inviting you to fill out a simple survey. The information you share will help keep your streets and communities safe. Add your voice to the survey: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/get-involved/crimestoppers-survey-your-views-matter.

Sheffield State of the Voluntary and Community Sector 2016 report now available – Sheffield Hallam University Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research

This report sets out the state of the voluntary and community sector in Sheffield in 2016. As well as giving a picture of the sector today, this report will act as a benchmark to enable us to track change over time, as well as be a catalyst for decision makers to consider how we can work together to develop and make best use of resources available to the city. We anticipate that it will enable the sector to prioritise efforts and make best use of limited resources by demonstrating impact. Art House

The Art House is stunning new building in the city centre and contains Yorkshire’s largest community pottery, art studios, exhibition space and a café. The purpose of the Art House is to encourage people to re-discover their creative ability. Research has shown that everyone can learn to be creative, but many people get discouraged at school and give up on developing their ability to make or draw or paint. Research also demonstrates that pottery and art are good for mental wellbeing, engaging parts of the brain which are not used in the normal working day. The development of skills in a supportive context and the completion of a task is immensely satisfying, building confidence that you can learn new skills of value to others. We run a wide range of pottery courses (Wheel throwing and Handbuilding) and art courses (Life Drawing, Watercolour, Painting and Drawing) for all abilities. Second public meeting has been planned to update people about proposals for Sheffield’s Central Library and Graves Art Gallery.

2 Dec

Due to high demand a second public meeting has been planned to update people about proposals for Sheffield’s Central Library and Graves Art Gallery.

Last week it was announced that Sheffield City Council is considering leasing the Surrey Street building to create the city’s first five star hotel, as the cost of repairs and upkeep is rapidly becoming unaffordable.

Almost all places have been booked for the first meeting which takes place from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on 6 December in Sheffield Town Hall.

A second meeting has therefore been planned for Friday, 16 December from 4pm to 6pm at the Town Hall. The meeting is likely to be popular, so pre-booking is essential.
